Welcome to the software shop!

Below are items you might like to purchase - pc games, strategy guides, etc.
For some I have included "recommended" notations,  and notes from my own personal experience.
I LOVE simulation games, so this page is heavy on those, but there are also a few other types I enjoy as well.
Many of these are family-friendly - games all ages can enjoy - but some, like The Sims, are rated for Teens.

Are you still trying to figure out what The Sims fuss is all about?
Well, you're in luck! Look around the rest of the site to see screenshots from The Sims or
from The Sims 2, and check out custom downloads and add-ons for the game.

Then you can find out for yourself why it's so hot...

You can purchase The Sims or The Sims 2 games and/or expansion packs, or
the official strategy guides here. Mac versions are also available.

The Sims PC Game

 The Sims: Complete Collection

includes The Sims game, along with all of the expansion packs:  Livin' Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar and Makin' Magic!

The Sims MegaDeluxe
Includes the orginal game, The Sims, along with the following  expansion packs:  Livin' Large, House Party, and Hot Date.

Obviously I love The Sims - I've set up an entire website devoted to the game!
Actually, despite being a Maxis fan for quite some time, I wasn't sure The Sims would
be all that interesting or enjoyable at first. So I didn't buy it immediately. I waited a couple
of months, and took my time reading reviews and checking the sales numbers. But, since it is
a Maxis game, I couldn't hold out too long, so when I saw it on sale, I picked it up to give it a try.
I became addicted from day one. It's a fascinating game, and one that I recommend to everyone.
This is one game that has become a fast favorite of gamers of all types and players of all ages.

The expansion packs add quite a lot to the game - new items, new characters, and new game-play -
and can be installed in any order.  In addition, Maxis and others have created additional
programs which allow players to further customize their games.  There are also many fan sites
online which allow you to download user-created add-ons such as wallpapers, floor tiles,
furniture, characters, clothing, houses, and many other items. I highly recommend this game.

SimCity 4 Deluxe edition

Zoo Tycoon 2

Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion:

Roller Coaster Tycoon is another game that seems to capture the interest
of all types of people - gamers of all kinds, players of all ages - everyone
loves this game. The object of the game is to build and maintain amusement parks,
which means placing rides, bathrooms, food and souvenir stalls, building rollercoasters,
and hiring security and maintenance workers. The little 'guests' are fun to watch,
and the game is definitely enjoyable. It's a great choice as a family game.

The Triple Thrill Pack includes Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 plus both expansion packs.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Gold includes RCT3 plus the Soaked and Wild! expansion packs.

While they are all quite popular and have received good reviews, my favorites
in the next section are:  Tropico, Zoo Tycoon, and 1602 A.D.
(I have written more about these games below the next section.)

While they are all quite popular and/or have received good reviews, my favorites
in the above section are:  Tropico, Great Empires 2, Zoo Tycoon, and 1602 A.D.

Tropico is a fun city-building game in which you develop your island while keeping
the residents happy - not as simple as it sounds, of course. The best aspect of the
game in my opinion is the ability to play freeform games (meaning without scenario
objectives to meet and time limit constraints). There are many challenging scenarios
and island development can take varying courses. The Mucho Macho edition combines
the original Tropico game with the Paradise Island expansion, so it's a good deal.

Great Empires 2 is a collection of three fantastic games: Caesar 3, Pharaoh, and the expansion
to Pharaoh, Cleopatra. In Caesar 3, you build a Roman Empire, and the best thing about this game
is that you can choose whether to concentrate on the city-building aspect or go for the battles.
Pharaoh and Cleopatra are more modern game-play-wise, but similar are also addiction empire-building games.

In 1602 A.D. you settle an island and trade with others, (but watch out for the pirates).
1602 A.D. is just as addictive as The Sims and Roller Coaster Tycoon in my opinion,
and the option of playing freeform games without scenario constraints is always a plus.
There is also a map editor which allows you to create your own maps and scenarios for customized gameplay.

Zoo Tycoon is quite similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon in many ways. The object of the
game is to build a zoo, and create exhibits which will please not only the guests, but the
animals as well. There are scenarios from which you may choose, which dictate further
objectives, such as researching and adopting endangered species. Of course, the scenarios
are available in three levels of difficulty, beginning, intermediate, and advanced.
Additional scenarios and animals are available for download at the official website.
It is a fun game, and you learn more about the animals and their habitats as well.
The Complete Collection edition includes the original Zoo Tycoon, plus the Dinosaur
Digs and Marine Mania expansion packs.
Zoo Tycoon 2 is simply the second generation of this game. There is currently one
expansion pack for ZT2, that is the Endangered Species pack

These games aren't as simple as they may appear. They're quite challenging and engaging.

Items in the next section are adventure and mystery-type games.

* Sim Mania Pack *

Sim Mania 2

SimCity with SimFarm (jewel case)

Sim Mania includes:
Sim City Classic, Sim Tower, Streets of Sim City, Sim Copter, SimIsle, and Sim Safari.

Sim Mania 2 includes:
Sim City 3000, Sim Theme Park, Sim Coaster, Sim Golf

I became a Maxis fan immediately upon playing SimCity when it was first released.
I loved it. Finally, an interesting game that didn't involve nonstop shooting.
(Not that I have anything against those games, but I like a bit of variety)
Then I got into SimCity 2000, SimFarm, SimTower, SimIsle...
Maxis makes fantastic games, that's all I can say.

Today, there are many more options in the world of computer games, but
if you missed out on the early Maxis games, you'll still
want to get the Sim Mania pack to catch up and see what you missed.
They're older, but still enjoyable.

I love simulation games, so I'll try to keep up with some good ones as they come out.
